Cambodia Gambling Dens
November 4th, 2015 by Quinn

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
